Vitamin D deficiency in your Pregnancy may cause Bones Problem to your child
Your body needs vitamin D to maintain proper levels of calcium and phosphorus, which help build your baby's bones and teeth. A vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy can cause growth retardation and skeletal deformities. It may also have an impact on birth weight.
If you're lacking vitamin D during pregnancy, your baby may be short on the vitamin at birth. This can put her at risk for rickets (which can lead to fractures and deformity), abnormal bone growth, and delayed physical development. And the results can be long lasting: Researchers believe that a vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy can affect bone development and immune function from birth through adulthood.
A deficiency of vitamin D has also been linked to a greater risk of pregnancy complications, including preeclampsia, and a higher likelihood of an expectant mom needing a c-section.
Pregnant adult women and nursing mothers need 600 IU of vitamin D every day, and teen mothers need 800 IU daily.
During pregnancy, a woman is eating for two. The growing fetus gets its nutrition entirely from the mother. If she doesn’t have what it needs, she can’t give it to the fetus. The fetal needs occur when the key structures of the fetus are being formed. Extreme deficiencies of important nutrients can cause deformities in the fetus; for example, folate deficiency causes neural tube defects.

1....   Vitamin D is known to play an important role in bone metabolism through regulation of calcium and phosphate equilibrium. Vitamin D is produced by the body during exposure to sunlight, but is also found in oily fish, eggs and fortified food products.
2...    Vitamin D deficiency is thought to be common among pregnant women in some populations, and has been found to be associated with an increased risk of pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus, preterm birth, and other tissue-specific conditions.
3...    Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy improves maternal vitamin D status and may reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia, low birthweight and preterm birth. However, the evidence currently available to directly assess the benefits and harms of the use of vitamin D supplementation alone in pregnancy for improving maternal and infant health outcomes is limited.
4...   Pregnant women should be encouraged to receive adequate nutrition, which is best achieved through consumption of a healthy balanced diet.
5..    Vitamin D deficiency has long been associated with poor bone development and has been identified as the cause of rickets. Although the incidence of rickets has declined with the current daily recommendations of vitamin D intake, the prevalence and additional consequences of low serum vitamin D levels have not been recognized until recently
6.... The measurement of serum vitamin D in pregnancy has helped researchers establish the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and elucidate adverse maternal and fetal outcomes associated with it.   Prevention of these diseases and reduction of the risk for childhood illnesses that are linked to early vitamin D deficiency are possible with greater understanding of vitamin D physiologic components, risk factors for vitamin D deficiency, and methods of supplementation to attain optimal levels in pregnant and lactating women.
