Smoking can cause infertility
Posted in 2013

Smoking damages almost all aspects of sexual, reproductive and child health, reveals a “shocking” new report.

The document, released by the British Medical Association (BMA) on Wednesday, is the most comprehensive look yet at the effects of smoking on reproductive health and reveals a grim picture.

Smoking can lead to fertility problems in both women and men. Chemicals found in cigarette smoke, such as nicotine and carbon monoxide, speed up the loss rate of awoman's eggs, said the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.
It's also a good idea for women to stay away from secondhand smoke, which may affect their chances of becoming pregnant. Marijuana and other recreational drug use should also be avoided while trying to conceive.
Women who smoke – or are exposed to other people’s smoke – have an increased risk of infertility and are more likely to take longer to get pregnant. In fact, passive smoking (inhaling someone else’s smoke) is only slightly less harmful to fertility than active smoking.
Pregnant women who smoke can find it more difficult to quit if they have a partner who smokes. Research shows it is much easier for people to stop smoking if they do it with their partner. Deciding to quit together is a great way to increase your fertility and chances of having a healthy baby.
Smokers are more likely to have fertility problems than nonsmokers. If you smoke for many years, or smoke many cigarettes per day, your risk for fertility problems is increased.
When you smoke, more than 7000 chemicals spread throughout your entire body and all of your organs. This can lead to fertility problems, including the following: a...Ovulation problems  b..Genetic issues

c...Damage to your reproductive organs   d...Damage to your eggs or premature menopause.
Increased risk of cancer and increased risk of miscarriage
In addition, smokers that try fertility treatments tend to take longer to get pregnant. Smokers are also more likely to give birth to babies with health problems.

Secondhand smoke can affect your fertility.
If you live with a smoker, encourage your loved one to stop. Secondhand smoke exposes you to poisonous chemicals, affecting your fertility. In fact, fertility experts say that secondhand smoke is almost as damaging to your fertility as if you were smoking yourself! Exposure to cigarette smoke for even just a few days can affect your health and your fertility.
Secondhand smoke is also a known cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). If you do become pregnant, you and your partner must stop smoking to protect the health of your baby.
If husband smokes it will effect on entire family...Here the family is called as Secondhand smoker as they inhale the smoking..I advise everyone to leave smoking habit..

My advise
1....    Around 120,000 young men aged 30 to 50 in the UK are impotent due to smoking. It is also implicated in around 1200 cases of malignant cervical cancer and nearly 5000 miscarriages every year in the UK, warns the report.
2..      Smoking has grave effects on both male and female fertility and enormous repercussions on child health. It increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth and sudden infant death syndrome, or “cot death”.
3...     About 14,000 low weight babies are born to mothers who smoke during pregnancy – putting the babies at risk of poor health including coronary heart disease and diabetes. Women who smoke during pregnancy are at three times the risk of having a low weight baby.
4....    “The sheer scale of damage that smoking causes to reproductive and child health is shocking,” says Vivienne Nathanson, the BMA’s head of science and ethics. “It is quite clear from the litany of appalling effects that something has to be done.”
5....    Women who smoke also take longer to conceive – with their chances of conception reduced by up to 40 per cent per cycle than non-smokers. Men?s fertility is affected too.
6...     “Male smokers have lower sperm counts and a higher proportion of damaged sperm,” she says. “They have a swimming pattern that is abnormal.”Both men and women smokers may have a poorer response to fertility treatment than non-smokers having trouble conceiving.
7..
Passive smoking is a particularly important issue for pregnant women, the report says, and increases the risk of having a low-weight or premature baby.
8...    The report suggests that under European law pregnant women who cannot be ensured protection from second hand smoke in the workplace should be entitled to leave on full pay for the whole of their pregnancy.
9....
Smoking can many birth defects.. So quit smoking habit(if you have)
