My memories
Depression in woman
Posted in 2013

Women go through several biological phases in their lives - puberty, pregnancy, motherhood, post menstrual phase and old age. Each stage can be overwhelming in its own way. In some cases, these stages may cause physical ailments that could persist for a long duration. Trying to cope with such ailments may affect the woman's mental health and lead to the development of depression or anxiety disorders. It is estimated that one in five women suffer from depression during some phase in their lives.
Some of the factors that could cause depression in women are:
a...   Menstrual cycle changes and related ailments, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menopause
b...   Sexuality and body image issues
c....  Lack of freedom to make decisions (being controlled by parents, husband, or in-laws)
d...   Changes in lifestyle due to work, marriage or migration
e....   Marital conflicts such as divorce, an extra marital affair, or incompatibility
f...    Previous episodes of depression, postpartum depression
g....  Lack of social support
h...   Unwanted pregnancy, miscarriage, or infertility
i....   Being overburdened with responsibilities, or single parenthood
j....   Trauma due to physical or mental abuse. Read more on intimate partner violence.

My advise
1...   Depression is an illness that affects the way people think, act and feel. About 6% of women will experience depression at some point in their lives. This number increases to about 10% (1 in 10) for women who are pregnant.
2...    Women are more at risk of depression while they are pregnant, and during the weeks and months after having a baby. During pregnancy, hormone changes can affect brain chemicals and cause depression and anxiety. Sometimes, pregnant women don’t realize they are depressed. They may think they have symptoms of pregnancy or the “baby blues,” which many women experience right after birth.
3....   It’s also important to know that as many as 10% of fathers experience postpartum depression after the birth of a child.
4...  Depression can come on slowly. The symptoms are different for everyone. They can be mild, moderate or severe. Some of the more common signs are:
  • changes in appetite, like eating too much or having little interest in food,
  • changes in sleep, such as trouble sleeping or sleeping too much,
  • lack of energy,
  • feeling sad, hopeless or worthless,
  • crying for no reason, and
  • loss of interest or pleasure in activities you normally enjoy
5...  New moms with depression may have trouble caring for their baby. They might not want to spend time with their baby, which can lead to a baby who cries a lot.
6...  If you have depression while you’re pregnant, you may have trouble caring for yourself.
  • miscarriage,
  • delivering before the due date (preterm),
  • giving birth to a small baby (low birth weight).
7.... The woman should practice positive thinking before conceiving.   The should develop their mentality to fight with any situation and her husband should support her.   If you are physically n mentally strong  than only you can give birth
to a child with mentally strong and brilliant child.
