Antibiotics during Pregnancy
Posted in 2016

Antibiotics are commonly prescribed during pregnancy. The specific medication must be chosen carefully, however. Some antibiotics are OK to take during pregnancy, while others are not. Safety depends on various factors, including the type of antibiotic, when in your pregnancy you take the antibiotic, how much you take, what possible effects it might have on your pregnancy and for how long you're on antibiotics.
Here's a sampling of antibiotics generally considered safe during pregnancy:
  • Penicillins, including amoxicillin, ampicillin
  • Cephalosporins, including cefaclor, cephalexin
  • Erythromycin
  • Clindamycin
Certain other antibiotics are believed to pose risks during pregnancy. For example, tetracyclines can discolor a developing baby's teeth. Tetracyclines aren't recommended for use after the 15th week of pregnancy.
If an antibiotic is the best way to treat your condition, your health care provider will prescribe the safest antibiotic at the safest dosage. If you have questions or concerns about the use of an antibiotic during pregnancy, talk to your health care provider.
My advise
1..     Antibiotic overuse is when antibiotics are used when they're not needed. Antibiotics are one of the great advances in medicine. But over prescribing them has led to resistant bacteria (bacteria that are harder to treat).
2....  Some germs that were once very responsive to antibiotics have become more and more resistant. This can cause more serious infections, such as pneumococcal infections (pneumoniaear infections, sinus infections, and meningitis), skin infections, and tuberculosis
3...   .Two major types of germs can make people sick: bacteria and viruses. They can cause diseases with similar symptoms, but they multiply and spread illness differently:
a....   Bacteria are living organisms existing as single cells. Bacteria are everywhere and most don't cause any harm, and in some cases are beneficial. But some bacteria are harmful and cause illness by invading the body, multiplying, and interfering with normal body processes.
b...    Antibiotics work against bacteria because they kill these living organisms by stopping their growth and reproduction.
c.....  Viruses, on the other hand, are not alive. Viruses grow and reproduce only after they've invaded other living cells. The body's immune system can fight off some viruses before they cause illness, but others (like colds) must simply run their course. Antibiotics do not work against viruses.
4....  Taking antibiotics for colds and other viral illnesses doesn't work — and it can create bacteria that are harder to kill.
5...   Taking antibiotics too often or for the wrong reasons can change bacteria so much that antibiotics don't work against them. This is called bacterial resistance or antibiotic resistance. Some bacteria are now resistant to even the most powerful antibiotics available.
6...  Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calls it "one of the world's most pressing public health problems." It's especially a concern in low-income and developing countries. That's because:
a...  Health care providers there often lack quick, helpful diagnostic tools that can identify which illnesses are caused by bacteria and which are not.
b...  Many of the areas only recently got widespread access to antibiotics.
c...  Lack of clean water, poor sanitation, and limited vaccine programs contribute to the infections and illnesses that antibiotics are prescribed for.
7....  We have many healthy foods to control cough, cold, flue and bronchitis. These foods will not give you reaction or side effects.
8..     If you are pregnant you should avoid antibiotics for any..   Antibiotics may cause several problems to your child.
9...    Protect your health with healthy food and avoid antibiotics
